The exhibition Van Toen & Van Nu presents the work of seven artists who each began their careers with a period of study on the Ceramics department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. The exhibition is held similarly to coincide with the exhibition Clay! One Hundred Years Ceramics at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie at the Gemeentemusuem Den Haag, an exhibition which looks back on one hundred years of ceramic practice at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. This department was the first of its kind in the country with the academie becoming known under its current name in 1968. This centenary exhibition presents a selection of works from leading artists who have passed through the ceramics department and who are representative of the development and practice throughout its hundred year history. The nature of this work has followed the influence and trends which were instigated by those who have led the course during the previous century. Including Bert Nienhuis, Wim de Vries, Theo Dobbelman, Jan van der Vaart and Henk Trumpie. (information courtesy of Marianne Heslenfeld)
