Press Release
This new series of works by sculptor and ceramist Nick Renshaw revisits, reimagines and reinvestigates many of the themes and areas of interest which have been of concern to the artist during his three decades long multifarious career as visual artist. His interpretations and visualisations of the human form either as subject, as metaphor, or carrier of visual motifs have been consistent themes throughout the artist’s career, and these interests are further advanced to form the foundation of both this new series of works individually as well as in this exhibitions as a whole. Renshaw will exhibit several related series of ceramic sculptures, each based on the human figure, and each echoing a series created at different moments in previous years. The sculptures are presented both at ground level, on platforms, as well as on the wall, and they will all demonstrate the artist’s capacity to combine clay, fired ceramic, and their surface treatments in a poetic manner. The location of this presentation in the exhibition space of Projectruimte BMB in the centre of Amsterdam, echoes many of the artist’s past solo exhibitions. Renshaw was formerly represented by Galerie De Witte Voet before that gallery’s closure in 2017.
