The exhibition Earthling Candyman was conceived during a work period at the European Ceramic Workcentre (EKWC) in 's-Hertogenbosch. The resulting body of works was produced on invitation from the National Museum of Ceramic Art in the Netherlands, Museum Het Princessehof, for a solo presentation in their dedicated gallery for contemporary ceramic art, De Prins van Leeuwarden. These works were developed primarily using hand-building techniques, perhaps the most fundamental of making processes. The references which such practices carries with them echo as far back as the earliest of ceramic made works. Equally, this process remains of central importance to work with the medium in a contemporary context. Formally the series are similarly reflective of images which could be representative of the earliest of depictions of the human figure as well as being symbolic of a recognisably contemporary visual language. Surface treatment using a variety of glaze types are applied using a breadth of approaches and are utilised to describe the nature of each individual sculpture.
